This month Ranjan was the luckiest of our crew… he got to drive the Lamborghini Huracan! If ever there was a “head turner” it is a Lamborghini in Verde Mantis (or Lime Green for us lesser mortals). A crowd gathered wherever the car was stopped or parked; people wanting to get a closer look, people wanting to take “selfies”, people questioning Ranjan as to what car it is and just plain looking. Says Ranjan about the driving experience “the revs build up so fast and the car covers ground at such pace, that one can hardly glance at the rev counter, but the soundtrack is so beautifully tuned that it just builds to a nice crescendo nearing its rev limit, so you can really change by ear, just the way we used to rev our old cars sans any rev counters till almost valve bounce and then slam the gears. Fabulous feeling, to say the least”.
In another story, five of us – Gishanka, Ashraaq, Avinda, Ryan and myself were invited by the track owners of the newly extended and refurbished GoKart Track to check it out and give our opinion about the track layout and the karts available. It turned out to be a great day out with fabulous driving experience of Karting on a FIA approved International GoKart track. As I have said in these columns before, if you have never driven a Kart, put it down in the to-do list for 2018. It is one of the most exhilarating experiences you can have with your pants on.
The December January period is usually called the “silly season” where all motor sports activities come to a standstill. However, this time it turned out to be possibly the most busiest periods for us at Motor – what with the Classic Car Club Christmas drive, Mighty Mini Club Grand Prix, a couple of awards ceremonies and not to mention a trip to Jaffna with 15 Classic Cars which will be featured in the next issue of the magazine. All this interspersed with some great test drives and visiting and checking out some great and interesting people and their cars for our Past Blast features made for some interesting times to say the least.
But we get through all this with a smile because we at Motor have a great team of writers and staff who are out and out enthusiasts when it comes to cars, bikes, travel and more. So stay tuned by reading the magazine and checking out our FB Page… and yes your feedback matters, so keep those comments and letters coming.
