As I’m writing this note today, our country has plunged in to one of its darkest periods of recent times. Hence it is anathema for me to pretend that nothing is wrong and carry on writing about cars and motoring only.
For the past few days; our staff at Motor were at work, but our thoughts were elsewhere. It was difficult to concentrate on our regular work knowing that over two hundred and fifty of our fellow citizens lost their lives, while simply going about their normal tasks, and indeed while at prayer.
The deepest condolences of myself and our staff goes out to the families of victims, and we hope for a speedy recovery to those who were injured in these senseless attacks.
Closer to home, we mourn the passing away of a friend of Motor in these dastardly attacks. Rishard Hamid was Director of Bavarian Motors Pvt Ltd and Managing Director of Exotic Cars Pvt Ltd, and was the importer of some exclusive and exotic cars to the country. He let us at Motor test drive most of the cars that he imported including the Maserati Levante, Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and Lamborghini Huracan; to name but a few. Our deepest condolences go out to the family members of Rishard.
We at Motor are committed to do our bit for the country, and indeed the tens of thousands of people who are either directly or indirectly working in the motoring and transport industries locally. How hard it may be; we all need to get back to our work places and do our bit. That way we not only do ourselves a service, but also help the country in its recovery process.
Now getting back to Motor, our Deputy Editor Ashraaq was able to drive some ten cars in one full day of test drives in China. Then we also test the Alphard, the luxury MPV from Toyota.
In other stories, we have comprehensive coverage of the Mahagastotte Festival of Speed 2019, and all the top motor sports action from around the world.
We also achieved another landmark in the journey of Motor this month. That is… it’s been 24years since the first Issue of Motor was published. And coincidentally, our soft launch back in April 1995 was at Mahagastotte where we displayed the first banner at the entrance to the race track and distributed leaflets to the drivers and spectators informing them of the pending first Issue of Motor in May 1995.
