Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort To be one with nature

The Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort was opened in October 2012 as a 57 room luxury resort. 22 grand suites were added in 2014. It is 45 minutes away from Mattala International Airport, in close proximity to Bundala, Yala and just 30 minutes away from the Sooriyawewa International Cricket Stadium. Many reasons indeed, why the Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort is set to provide the region with star class accommodation. All 22 grand suites in the new wing are equipped with modern amenities.

The new wing is an absolute delight with a separated jungle area creating ambience and a certain character. This area is exclusively for guests who have booked in for the sole purpose of rest and relaxation.

The 57 rooms in the old wing are divided into 3 sections. The forest wing and the pool wing are naturally separated by the stream wing by the Malabotu Ela a small stream of the Walawe Ganga. The stream wing consists of the main restaurant, banquet hall and bar area. This area is once again separated by a natural stream there by giving guests ample relaxation.

For dining, the Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort has a coffee shop named Monara, an open air restaurant and 2 bars aptly named Ath Gala and Ali Mankada, the mini open air theatre is also a place for tourists designed in the style of Wala the open air theatre of the Peradeniya University. Also laudable are the careful attempts to conserve water and the fact that the construction work around the complex has been artfully managed without felling a single tree.

The Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort has a state of the art business center, a gym and specially designed swimming pool with an adjoining bar, a conference hall that could seat 200 persons, a huge banquet hall and a mini cinema.

The Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort is just half a kilometre away from the popular Ath Athuru Sevena elephant transit camp. It is also close to the Uda Walawe National Park, Maduna Gala hot water spring and Katuwana Dutch Fort.

Yala, Kataragama, Situlpawwa and Kirinda are within two hours away from the Grand Udawalawe Safari Resort.

My Sri Lanka is resplendent, a land like no other.
