We all know about BMWs right? And here in paradise we all know that BMW has a 1 series, a 3 series, a 5 series, 6 series and 7 series. What then is a BMW 2 series?
We don’t blame you if you are confused, but the 2-Series is available as a compact coupé that replaced the 1 Series coupé, or as a convertible model that replaces the 1 Series convertible in the BMW lineup. There is also a new compact MPV body style, which BMW refers to as an Active Tourer. The 2-Series Active Tourer mechanicals are unrelated to the coupé and convertible models'. While it shares the 2-series name, it is built on a totally different front wheel drive platform that is shared with the 3rd generation MINI Cooper dubbed UKL1. In June 2015 BMW will also release a seven seater 2 Series Grand Tourer. So anyway, we are simply lucky to have been able to test drive the very quick, great handling BMW M235i… so just get stuck in to the story as told by Gishanka this month.
The Mercedes E300 Bluetec Hybrid is a rather intriguing proposition for executive buyers with an environmental bent, given it combines a diesel engine with a hybrid drivetrain to yield a rather remarkable claimed fuel consumption. We also tested this car… and what a car! What refinement!
Our Past Blast feature this month is also very unique. It is truly a “barn find” a la Sri Lanka. The pristine Three-wheeler Morgan has been brought back to life after many decades of hibernation. It is doubtful if any other Morgan three wheelers have survived the ravages of our tropical climate. But then you never know, because up to a few months ago we had not heard of any surviving Morgan three wheelers here.
Hope you enjoy these three features as much as our team enjoyed writing them… and that’s not all, we have all the Club Focus activities, the Red Line features, and Dyan’s Motoring Snippets that are always “seriously funny”.
So happy reading!
