Riddara RD6 Active 2WD

Published on 04 Apr 2026

The Riddara RD6 (formerly known as Geely Radar RD6) is all-electric, and is a lifestyle-oriented double cab, with the Active 2WD model serving as a versatile, commuter-friendly, and more affordable alternative to traditional diesel models and indeed the more expensive 4WD version. Back in June 2025, we drove the 4WD version of the same Riddara and were impressed by the ride quality and the interior. So would this 2WD version offer the same levels of comfort and performance as the 4WD version? Let’s find out.

Exterior

The exterior – well, as we said at the time of testing the 4WD version - is mostly like a conventional double cab save for the aerodynamic contours of the front end. Looking at the overall exterior of the test vehicle that the good folk at Evolution Auto – the local agent for Riddara - gave us to test; we noticed some minor changes compared to the 4WD version. Other than that, if you look at the side profile, you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference. Another area you can tell the difference, is in the colour palette. There’s just three, namely Black Night, Grey or Cloud White.

The front facia of the RD6 Active has a bold, wide front face design featuring a closed-off grille or a solid-panel; accompanied by Matrix LED headlights and LED Rear-lights. The front has smooth, aerodynamic contours designed to reduce wind resistance (it has an impressively low drag coefficient of 0.326 Cd). The sides feature standard running boards and wheel arch protection. The rear features a full-length, LED taillight bar that emphasizes the vehicle's width.

The RD6 comes with 17-inch alloy wheels featuring a nice "blocky" yet aerodynamic design.

Interior

The interior of the RD6 Active – like the 4WD version - is designed to emulate a modern, luxurious SUV rather than a traditional, rugged pickup truck. The dashboard is dominated by an 8-inch screen and overall It features high-quality materials, advanced technology, and high-level of comfort for five occupants. The headroom and legroom are exceptionally good, and even the tallest among us would not be cramped at the back. In fact the comfort features and ergonomics of the cabin has a nice mix designed for both city driving and comfortable long-range travel, featuring soft-touch materials and metallic accents. It is equipped with premium leather-look seats, but unlike its plusher 4WD sibling, only the driver’s seat is power adjustable.

Although this 2WD RD6 Active that we drove has been “specced down” to a price, it still retains many of the nice touches of the pricier 4WD. The features include rear passenger air vents, One Click start, Keyless Entry, Cruise Control, External Power Mirrors, Multi-Function Steering Wheel, and 4 speakers that pump out decent sound to keep the occupants entertained. The rear seats have 60/40 folding and give access to storage areas behind and under the rear bench seat, including a hidden storage box. In this specced down version, load/luggage carrying is limited to the 1,200-litre cargo bed (payload is over 1,000 kilograms, by the way). The 70-litre "frunk" (front trunk) that is there on the 4WD is “there but not there” as the well area of the front does not have the required “base plate” or the “floor”.

Mech, Tech & Range

The RD6 2WD model comes with a 63kWh battery. The single electric motor produces 100kw of power and 385nm of torque. 0-100 kmh is stated to be achieved in 10.4 seconds. In real life situations we found this to be totally adequate… and in Sport mode it actually felt like it did better than the stated figure. It has 3 driving modes – Eco, Comfort and Sports. A 6.6 kilowatt-hour charger is supplied, and DC fast charging is supported as well.

The suspension is nice and firm, yet supple enough to smooth out bad road surfaces and pot-holes. It has independent suspension all round and uses McPherson struts in front and multi linked system at the rear.

We found the Auto-Hold function of the RD6 to be very useful in stop-go city traffic by maintaining brake pressure to keep the vehicle stationary after it has come to a complete stop, without needing to keep the foot on the brake pedal. Stopping power is via disc brakes all round.

The Electric Power Steering (EPS) is speed sensitive and makes the steering lighter at low speeds for easy parking and heavier at high speeds for better stability and control. The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) monitors the vehicle's handling to detect, reduce, and prevent loss of control. In a 2WD (rear-wheel drive) electric truck with high torque, this is crucial for preventing the rear end from stepping out or losing traction during acceleration on slippery surfaces. During our test we did some hard cornering and hard acceleration through corners to test out the handling, and the truck essentially went where we pointed it!

The RD6’s 63kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, offers an estimated range of 385km - 415km (CLTC). Real-world, energetic driving may yield a range closer to 250-330 km, depending on usage (all figures are estimates only, and not tested).

Driving the Riddara RD6 2WD

The independent suspension and low centre of gravity (thanks to the floor-mounted battery) make it handle more like a SUV than a typical truck. Cornering ability is exceptional and the ride comfort is up there with the best SUV’s and easily surpasses most other Double Cab trucks.

The steering is light in slow speed traffic and is a breeze to drive in congested areas despite its length (5,260 mm) in urban environments. At higher speeds the steering stiffens up and gives confidence to the driver and overall the vehicle feels planted.

The fact that unlike conventional ladder-frame utes/double cabs, the RD6 is built on a monocoque chassis becomes clear when driving, in that it feels like driving a refined SUV or a car for that matter. The synthetic leather seats not only look good, but are comfortable and very ergonomically designed… and I’m sure would contribute be able to get out of the vehicle with minimal tiredness even after several hours of driving. The generous rear legroom and headroom for all five passengers also would contribute to the relaxed ride.

Final Words

The Riddara RD6 Active 2WD is a highly refined, comfortable, and reasonably swift "lifestyle" electric pickup that functions more like an SUV than a traditional workhorse, making it an excellent urban commuter or weekend adventurer with the load carrying capacity of a traditional double cab to boot. It is a strong contender for those looking to switch from an internal combustion engined (ICE) ute/double-cab to electric, offering significant operating cost savings with loads of style as well.

It comes with a 5 year 150,000 km warranty for the vehicle as a whole, and 8years 200,000 km warranty on the Battery. At an all-inclusive price of Rs. 17.1M, it represents one of the best value for money propositions currently available in Sri Lanka.
