The Grand Umaya hotel is the very first hotel built in the quiet, traditional village of Pitigala in Elpitiya. With a lush paddy field and a hillock as a backdrop, Grand Umaya is located close to the main Pelwatte road. The hotel is the brainchild of two close friends, Kumara Pathirana and Nihal Jayasinghe.

Six spacious and tastefully furnished rooms provide a peaceful retreat to holidaymakers and families alike who want a quiet weekend out of the city. Since there are no hotels or banquet facilities in the area, Kumara and Nihal saw a tremendous opportunity to provide their guests an enjoyable holiday retreat and themselves, a sound investment.

Honeymooners especially seem to love the not-too-predictable location private party planners like its ability to accommodate up to 300 persons in their large banquet hall. A very modern colour lighting system has been installed with 16 styles of colour variations.

Guests are encourage to try out fresh salads and fresh vegetables from authentic farms in the village. All of these vegetables and herbs are used in the main dishes the chef prepares. The popular choices here are traditional Sri Lankan, Chinese and Western fare.
