Pasikudah Bay is getting a new kind of respect. Holidays on the east coast were restricted to Trincomalee and may be Arugam bay for quite a while, but then who can hide a shallow bay gently lapping the golden sands off algae and barnacle encrusted rocks.
Pasikudah is the Tamil name for ‘green algae bay’ and I learned with wonder that Pasikudah is reputed to have one of the longest stretches of shallow water in the world. But the best kept secreting is its unexplored wildlife which can be experienced 20 to 30 miles from the bay. Thoppigala is the best place for sloth bear and elephant herds.
Centara Resort and Spa is just two months old and is one of the largest properties on this coast. It boasts six categories of rooms, including suites. The hotel is large and imposing on 6 acres of prime land. The sea affords some of the best dives and coral exploration sites off its reef. I visited Centara and another Private property on a magical trip.
