Mighty Mini Club Celebrates International Moke Day

It's believed that only Sri Lanka continues to celebrate this day!

After a long period of self-imposed hibernation due to Covid-19, the Mighty Mini Club of Sri Lanka recently organized and conducted a Drive to commemorate “International Moke Day”. While giving priority to Mokes on this drive, other Mini owners were also invited to participate. Hence a total of some 75 cars participated; setting a new record number for participation numbers of MINIs at a Mighty Mini Club drive, and indeed for a club drive overall in Sri Lanka.

The International Moke day originated in Australia where a day was dedicated to celebrating Mokes all over the world. However, as of late - as far as we are aware - it is only Sri Lanka that celebrates International Moke Day. Hence we asked Senaka Senanayake – himself a Moke owner - the current president of the Mighty Mini Club of Sri Lanka, as to whether this event could in-fact be made a true international event. He said it is definitely possible, and that next year, the Club would take the initiative to publicize the event internationally so that Moke owners world-wide could participate virtually in this event from their respective countries.

There was a very colourful array of Mokes and MINIs that gathered at the Parliament car park, Battaramulla in celebration of this event. Subsequently all the Mokes and MINIs with club members and their friends in attendance set off in a convoy to their final destination – Tea Avenue at Thimbirigasyaya.

Passers-by at the Parliament car park, all along the way and at Tea Avenue, were fascinated to see such a colourful array of head-turning Mokes and MINIs all at one place.
