Latest Civic Type R to be previewed at 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon
Honda’s eleventh-generation Civic continues with the halo model

Ever since the sixth-generation EK-series Civic, there’s always been a Type R variant of the Civic. Ashraaq Wahab drove the tenth generation Type R on Sri Lankan roads in August 2018 and came away mighty impressed with it. So as you can imagine, it warms the cockles of our hearts to hear that Honda’s halo Civic is continuing amidst a world of ever-tightening regulations for the internal combustion engine – some automakers have even sounded its death knell.
Thus, it’s even more heart-warming to hear that the 2022 Civic Type R will retain the 2.0L Earth Dreams VTEC turbo four of the tenth generation, albeit improved. Honda have announced that the eleventh generation Civic Type R will be released in late 2022, with a public preview at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. This prestigious auto show is to be held between January 14th and January 16th. The 2022 Type R will only be offered as a hatchback, and will feature a slew of mechanical upgrades in the handling and braking departments, as well as a distinctive body kit to differentiate it from garden-variety Civics.
