AIX Racing signs Yevan David for 2026 Formula 3 campaign

Published on 08 Aug 2025

Yevan David has become the first driver to be confirmed for the 2026 FIA Formula 3 season, with AIX Racing announcing his signing for next season.

David is currently competing in the Euroformula Open Championship where he has taken four race victories so far this season and a further five podium results. He also achieved a top 10 finish in GB3 at the beginning of August.

Prior to that, David competed in the Eurocup-3, Spanish F4 and UAE F4 Championships in 2024 in what was his first full season of single-seater racing after graduating from karts.

He is now set to become the first driver from Sri Lanka to compete in FIA F3. Speaking about his signing with AIX, the 18-year-old said he was proud to become the first driver from his country to compete in the Championship and was grateful for the opportunity.

“Very thankful to have this opportunity to be racing as the first Sri Lankan driver in Formula 3, and with AIX racing. They’ve proved themselves and I’m excited to achieve great milestones with them for the season ahead.”

What is Formula 3?

The FIA Formula 3 Championship – or F3 – is a global championship in which some of the biggest junior talents in motorsport compete, showing their speed and skill while developing their racecraft in preparation for the next level. Succeed in F3, and the next logical step on the Road to F1 is Formula 2.

Formula 3 is a single-make championship, meaning that unlike F1 the cars are all identical. Everyone uses the same equipment, ensuring no one has a competitive advantage. A driver’s speed, talent and bravery are what makes the difference in the end.

As an F1 support championship, all 10 Formula 3 rounds are held on selected Formula 1 race weekends across the globe. This gives F3 drivers an opportunity to showcase their developing abilities with the F1 world watching on.

Progression to Formula 1

Reaching the Formula 1 grid is hard. Very hard. There are only 20 seats on the grid each year. Vacancies don’t come up very often – and when they do, drivers need to be able to snatch them up quickly, with a little support and a dash of luck!

Each drivers’ talent and individual circumstances will have played the biggest part in achieving that spot in Formula 1 – but they would have been able to harness and refine that talent in championships that suitably prepared them for the demands of Formula 1. That’s what F2 and F3 aspire to be – racing schools that prepare drivers for the ultimate graduation.
